Flash 9 in 64-Bit Firefox on Fedora 7
This describes briefly how to get the Flash 9 plugin running in a 64-Bit Firefox on Fedora 7.
I was told that there is a [Korean translation] of this entry at the [Korean Linux Documentation Project].
Installing the Flash plugin
We use the [Macromedia repo] for the flash player. Copy the file [macromedia-i386.repo] to your /etc/yum.repos.d directory. Then type (as root)
yum install flash-plugin
to install the plugin.
Building nspluginwrapper
Now comes the “tricky” part. We use the [nspluginwrapper] to use the 32-bit version of the flash plugin in our 64-bit Firefox.
For this download the [source RPM] that I created based on the one that you can get on the nspluginwrapper website. I converted it to a more Fedora-style RPM.
It could be that you have to do a
yum install /usr/include/gnu/stubs-32.h
to get the 32-bit glibc-devel installed (additionally to the 64-bit version!). Then rebuild the RPM with
rpmbuild --rebuild /nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4-1.src.rpm
or just download the RPMs that I build ([nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm] and [nspluginwrapper-i386-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm]).
Installing nspluginwrapper
Install the two RPMs nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm and nspluginwrapper-i386-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm that you either build or downloaded from above and install them with
rpm -Uvh nspluginwrapper-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm nspluginwrapper-i386-0.9.91.4-1.x86_64.rpm
Enjoy Flash
That’s itm you are set, about:plugins should now show the flash plugin and flash should work!
